Links to curricular subjects

Preparation for the expedition and involvement in project work overseas can contribute directly to more traditional subject areas such as science, geography and history – making lessons jump off the page and giving pupils experience to draw from.

Elements of our expedition programmes link directly to personal and social education objectives and help to teach citizenship as political, spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues are explored. Contrasting socio-political and economic systems in their destination country with their home country will bring a greater understanding of these complex subjects. Cultural diversity, and the need for mutual respect and understanding and the importance of global responsibilities are also realised, contributing to them becoming informed citizens. Students are encouraged to become more involved in their own schools, neighbourhoods and wider communities through fund-raising and raising awareness.

Outlook also aims to enhance the financial capability of students by encouraging them to raise the funds themselves for their overseas expedition.  The fundraising element of the expedition demonstrates real commitment to future employers as well as encouraging entrepreneurial qualities in the participants.  Money management both before and after the expedition teaches pupils valuable budgeting skills.
