What does he do?
Dave has been involved with the Outdoor scene since his first introduction to it through a school trip when he was 13. Having survived having his fingers stood on as encouragement to “let go and abseil”, he then spent many a school holiday glued to the TV watching Paddles Up, and decided that ‘…one day, that would be him…’. Since then the outdoors and coaching sport and activities has become the central part of Dave’s career as well as his first love on a day off. Being a climber, mountaineer, skier, surf, sea and river kayaker, he is never short of opportunities on days off, no matter the weather!
In a variety of different jobs, including Senior Instructor and Managerial, Dave has managed to mix work and play throughout the UK, Europe, America, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand. In addition, Dave has experienced other countries, all in the name of personal development or more likely, just pure excitement, including Norway, Thailand and Chile to name a few. The other side of his experiential coin lies in competition and coaching, both to National levels in sports such as Trampolining, Surf Kayaking and Triathlon.
From 2008, Dave will work in partnership with Outlook Expeditions as their technical advisor, with a specific bias towards Water Based Activities and holds the following relevant qualifications; Level 5 Sea Kayak Coach, Level 5 Inland Coach, Aspirant Level 5 Surf Coach, Level 3 Canoe Coach, BCU Coach Educator and Assessor and Mountain Instructor, as well as International Mountain Leader. Dave’s role will be to support the Outdoor Activity and Expedition Staff and ensure that the water based technical content of the expedition and instructional programmes, including procedures and equipment meets all the standards required.
Dave is usually to be found either instructing or guiding in the Snowdonia Mountains, coaching folks in kayaking, climbing or mountaineering or providing technical advice and training to centres across the UK and to aspiring instructors.
In addition, Dave is a keen fitness enthusiast and can often be seen running, biking and swimming his way around the Snowdonia National Park. When he finally sits down he also enjoys a good book and has even been known to put pencil to paper in the form of drawing. He sometimes sleeps too!
Dave Brown is the water based activity Technical Advisor to Outlook. Dave ensures that the water based technical content of the expedition programmes, including procedures and equipment meets all standards required.
