Ash clouds and cocktails

Iceland, huh! Just as everyone is looking forward to returning back to the real world and the daily joys of  work after Easter a volcano explodes, spewing ash all over the place and leaving people stuck in the sunshine, sipping cocktails in four star hotels unable to return home. Terrible.

Outlookers are being affected by the mayhem in a variety of ways.  Primarily, most of the team are breathing sighs of relief that it decided to erupt now and didn't wait until the middle of expedition season.

Planner Steph is busily re-designing the 2011 Iceland itineraries now that one of the treks simply doesn't exist anymore.

Technical Director Will and a group of Link Teachers are stranded in Morocco following a Link Teacher training course over Easter and the Sales & Marketing teams' Becca is stuck in Vietnam after her holiday.  News coming in is that despite being keen to get home all the above are being well looked after and the sun tans are coming on a treat.

Joking apart, I think this incident has really brought to light the sheer grit and determination of many people as they have battled overland and even aboard inflatable dinghy's to get back to the UK.  One of the skills we believe going on expedition teaches you is problem solving.  Hopefully, teams aren't going to have to cope with anymore erupting volcanoes but you never know what you are going to have to come up against and it's not until you're in a situation that you have to start making choices.  For me in this instance, it would certainly be a tough one... oh go on then, one more Margarita.
