There was much excitement at Outlook yesterday when our very own Claire Hitchins (border collie owner and marketing extraordinaire) became a radio star! In-case the news has escaped you, Radio 1's Big Weekend is coming to the Faenol Estate in Bangor which is quite literally in Outlook's back garden. So in response to an on air request from Greg James for Bangor residents to email in with suggestions of what he and his team could get up to in the area, Claire emailed in.
Well what d'you know...Radio 1 called back! But shock horror, Claire wasn't in! She was on her way to Bristol to run an assembly presentation to a group of prospective expedition participants. But thanks to the wonders of modern technology they were able to get hold of her on her mobile and catch her on-route (obviously she pulled into a service station before talking to them).
First of all she spoke to a very nice man called Neil who wanted to know all about Outlook and what the Radio 1 team could get up to in Snowdonia. She sold the area so well that Greg James himself then wanted to talk to her. ON AIR! So the rest of us Outlookers gathered round our computers to listen to her chat away with Greg like they were old friends.
We reckon that Greg seemed very interested in Claire's offer of taking him hill walking with us. And since he and Claire are now best mates and he has her mobile number he's bound to call. It's a cert.
If you'd like to listen to "lovely Claire from Bangor"'s (Radio 1's words, not ours) star appearance then go to the BBC's iplayer and skip forward to about minute 42 of Greg James' show on Wednesday 5th May, 2010.

Incidentally, as much as we're very pleased that the Big Weekend is coming to Bangor and can't believe they haven't been here before...Outlook won't actually be in the area that weekend. Outlook's Annual Conference is to be held that same weekend (22nd / 23rd May) in Northampton. We're sad to be missing out on the music but are looking forward to the conference all the same. But hey, Claire might be taking Greg James hill walking. Every cloud has a silver lining.
We'll keep you posted on any hill walking developments.
