Help for Heroes Lunch

Posted on 25 / 02 / 2010

Last week the Outlook team were spoilt when Becca Elston-Green's mum Jill made us all lunch. The chocolate brownies are highly recommended. Before we're accused of being a lazy bunch, there was a very worthy reason for it...

In the last week of May 2010, Jill will be one of a team of 300 cyclists who will gather at HMS Victory in Portsmouth, travel across the channel to France and embark on a 350 mile bike ride across France, stopping at historic battle sites to remember those who fought and died there. The ride will finish at Dunkirk on the 70th anniversary of the evacuation. Jill told us that the ride would take 6 days and the aim was to ride 70 miles per day! Not only will this be a huge physical challenge, but Jill is also fundraising loads of money for the Help for Heroes Charity. In exchange for some yummy lunch each member of the Outlook team donated money to Jill's fundraising pot.

Help for Heroes spend the money fundraised on making grants that aim to provide practical, direct support for the UK's wounded servicemen / women. Their current focus is for grants to create a series of regional Recovery Houses to be built across the UK and serve as the last stage of rehabilitation before a serviceman, or woman, returns to their unit or transits back into civilian life. The Outlook team wish Jill the very best of luck in May!
