Photo Competition 2011

Posted on 25 / 11 / 2011

The standard of entries into the participant photo competition just seems to get better and better.  Above all I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who entered for taking the time and allowing us to share your expedition experiences that were so beautifully captured.

I hope that people will be pleased to see their pictures on the website and in Outlook brochures and presentations of the future because we can't wait to use them and every one tells a different story about expedition life and what it is to be part of an expedition team.

We gave two prizes.  The first was judged by our 2000 fans on Facebook with the image with the most likes taking the prize.  It was a close run thing over the months open for voting but the winning entry was this great wildlife shot taken by Darlene Dent from Kemnay Academy during her expedition to Borneo.  What a personality!

Second place went to Luke Newell from Wilmington Grammar for Boys for his lovely 'sunscape' taken in Romania.

The other part of the competition we like to call 'Expedition Photographer of The Year' and this year was judges by Expedition Programme Co-ordinator Manager, Rich Brighton.  Rich is fanatical about photography and is studying his passion for taking pictures on a part time course alongside his work at Outlook.  It was such a difficult task that in the end Rich decided to create a shorlist which he sent around all the staff at Outlook Head Office and asked them to vote for the winner.

On his chosen shortlist Richard said 'There were some great shots submitted and it was really difficult to leave some out of the final few!  With these images, I think that whoever is behind the lens has thought about the image they are trying to capture, the composition and subject - I think they are wonderful shots, all of them!

In the end with 43% of the vote the winner was decided and it was Bethany Limbrick from King Edward VII with her photograph taken in Madagascar.  Richard said 'I think the winner was so popular because it epitomises much of what an expedition is about; teamwork, problem solving, working with locals, improving standard of life for locals.  The composition is good, colour is nice too!'

All the entries can still be seen on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/outlookexpeditions  in the albumn Photo Competition 2011.  Congratulations to all the winners and all those who were shortlisted.  Bring on 2012!
