Need a new laptop?

SITR up their support with more laptops than ever for 2011 projects.

In 2011 SITR (Secure IT Recycling) are once again donating laptops to

support our projects all over the world. Thanks to the generosity of the team

at SITR, around 40 laptops will be carried by our groups as a practical, very

well received, additional donation for our project partners.

Last summer, around 25 teams delivered laptops to our projects – here are some of their stories:

Azul Wasi – Peru

The project at Azul Wasi was set up by a policeman in Cusco who has

made it his personal mission to provide an alternative to the state run

correctional facilities which many young homeless children find themselves

in after ending up on the streets for a variety of reasons. The boys go to

school and are fed and clothed and taught how to rear animals and grow their

own food. In the summer of 2010, 2 groups from Scotland worked hard on

improving the facilities at Azul Wasi as well as providing 2 new computers to

replace the ones which had stopped working. With more groups going this year,

the boys at Azul Wasi will have their own little IT suite where they can do their

homework and learn invaluable skills for the future.

 Thuy An Orphanage – Vietnam

Thuy An Orphanage is 70km from Hanoi and is an orphanage for children

aged 0-18 years old who suffer from mental or physical disabilities. The centre

aims to provide rehabilitation for the children through physical therapy, life skills

and education. The donation of IT equipment is very beneficial for the education department at the orphanage.

Yanapuma Foundation – Chichico Rumi – Ecuador

The Yanapuma Foundation is a cooperatively run NGO whose aims are to facilitate sustainable practices in poor urban and rural communities throughout Ecuador, and to encourage intercultural exchange that fosters mutual benefit and learning in a globalizing world.

The community of Chichico Rumi is an indigenous Quichua community in the Amazon basin of Ecuador. Chichico Rumi is one community that is working hard to preserve their rich culture through the construction of an ethnological museum, cultural centre and medicinal gardens. Apart from providing manpower for the construction of the centre, a team delivered a laptop which will be a valuable resource for the community.

As our 2011 groups are about to depart we would like to give a big ‘Thank you!’ on behalf of all our project partners for the generous support SITR have provided over the last 4 years.
