A strange shaped object has mysteriously appeared outside our kitchen door...it's the new Outlook compost bin! Affectionately known by some as “The Tardis”, it is putting the copious amount of tea bags that we use here at the centre to good use and will hopefully yield some compost for us in the future.
If you fancy starting to use your own compost bin, follow these dietary tips and you’ll have a happy compost bin!
Outlook’s compost bin lives on a diet of:
- Raw fruit and vegetables
- Egg shells
- Tea leaves and tea bags
- Coffee grounds
- Egg boxes
For a bit of variety, it sometimes likes to eat:
- Shredded paper
- Fallen leaves
- Weeds (preferably avoiding weeds with seeds)
- Hedge clippings
- Wood shavings
However, being a fussy eater, it doesn’t like:
- Meat
- Table scraps
- Dairy products
- Bones
- Oil
- Plastic
