Europe
A green blue panorama of sea breezes and alpine gusts, journeying across Europe you'll encounter rolling hills, golden beaches and towering mountains; this is where cities and cultures contrast ancient history with the modern world.
Visit wild Iceland for the ethereal Aurora, its giant glaciers and gushing geysers. Kayak the fjords of its Norwegian neighbour, head down into the heart and you'll arrive at the snowy peaks and heavenly meadows of the Alps and mythical forests of Bavaria. See and smell the orange groves of Spain and olives of Greece, awe at the clear blue of Slovenian lakes. Then there is the sun soaked life of the Mediterranean. People have left their mark on the landscape too, with stunning cities, castles and and relics of ancient civilisations.
Life lessons in Europe
The beauty of travelling to Europe is that it is not that different but it is different enough. Participants are taken out of their familiar surroundings making it the perfect introduction to overseas travel and a suitable destination choice for younger participants. There is also less initial travel time involved and less air travel - so less impact on the environment.
Physical rating - Europe
An expedition to Europe is all about the adventure activities - all with varying physical demands. Trekking in the Alps or the Pyrenees can be as challenging as anywhere in the world - depending on what you want from your trip. For activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking and sea kayaking participants will require a reasonable level of fitness, snow touring in Bavaria will require endurance but snorkelling is a softer (and warmer) option.
Culture shock rating - Europe
You won't experience the culture shock you'd get from expeditioning in Africa but that doesn't mean Europe is a lesser destination. Other European countries share a great deal with the UK but they are rich in their own ancient cultures and participants can gain a broader understanding of their own continent and neighbouring countries.
