Fundraising
Any young person is capable of raising the funds to go on expedition if they put their mind to it. Outlook provides Link Teachers and participants with structured support through their dedicated Expedition Programme Co-ordinator.
Fundraising is a lesson in managing money, record keeping, self motivation and target achievement. Universities and employers respect the commitment and entrepreneurship a participant demonstrates in this phase. Raising money is part of the fun of going on expedition; it also helps the team come together, plan, support and work towards a shared goal.
Raising funds normally follows two strands. The first is the money participants raise individually; this generally comes from part-time jobs and personal entrepreneurship such as setting up a small business washing cars, babysitting or selling items on e-bay. Many add birthday or Christmas money to this fund and some are lucky enough to gain sponsorship from local businesses. Individuals can also raise money by taking part in one of Outlook’s sponsored events.
The second strand is funds that are raised between the group and then split between them. These are often events run at school such as discos, food sales or non-uniform days. Teams also come together to raise money outside school eg. bag packing at supermarkets.
Link Teachers are trained to support their group through the fundraising session which is held during one of the development days, it aims to motivate students and help the Link Teacher in maintaining this enthusiasm. Fundraising sessions with Link Teachers and students at development days have proved to be a successful formula for groups going on to raise the entire cost of their expedition.
Tailor-making your expedition means that we work with you to decide on the appropriate length of the build up, the cost of the expedition and the right number of development days at the school to enable your fundraising efforts to be successful.
