Africa

The far flung corners of the earth contained in one continent.

Discover rolling savannah plains dotted with acacia trees, spotted giraffe and stripey zebras. Watch the burnt orange glow of an African sunset streaking across the plain to the sound of the ceremonial drumming of stampeding wildebeest or a tribal village. Africa is an expanse of dry, dusty desert and savannah, surprising snow-capped mountains, white beaches and dense tropical frests. Immerse yourself in the heat of the heart of an African city - where the rich smell of spices wafts down the street.

Life lessons in Africa

An expedition to Africa is an eye opening back-to-basics experience. Some areas are untouched by modern development and pockets of ancient tribal tradition still flourish. It offers participants the opportunity to take part in projects that will make a difference to impoverished communities and they will gain a stark perspective of the challenges these communities face.

Physical rating - Africa

With our 'Mount Kenya (5199m)', 'Kilimanjaro (5895m)' and 'Tanzania 3 peaks' expedition opportunities it's easy to see why Africa can offer some of the greatest physical challenges. You will need to have a higher level of fitness in order to complete these particular challenges although other more moderate treks are available. Trekking opporunities include winding your way between remote communities, camel trekking in the Sahara and experiencing new sights and sounds trekking through the rainforest.

Culture shock rating - Africa

There is no where else like Africa on earth. It is going to feel very different to life in the UK. Africa is home to a myriad of ethnic groups which today still maintain a traditional way of life in remote landscapes. Participants should be prepared to see impoverished communities. Roads will be dusty, transport is unlikely to run on time and accommodation will be basic.
