South America

A pick and mix of landscapes - South America has one to suit everyone.

Full to bursting with razor peaked mountains, vast empty wildernesses, frothing waterfalls, crashing glaciers and steep sided volcanoes. The hot sticky Amazonian jungle needs to be navigated and South America is alive with vibrant indigenous cultures. Rumours of ancient civilisations are thick in the air; there aren't many who can resist the call of Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. Throw in juicy steaks, tropical fruit, gauchos, fiestas and crazy football fans (llamas too!) and you've not even started!

Life lessons in South America

An expedition to South America offer participants the chance to experience a way of life that differs greatly to their own. The variety of landscapes on offer allows for a range of challenging adventure activities and project work. Participants will be able to build confidence in overseas travel while being carefully guided by an experienced Expedition Leader.

Physical rating - South America

The team will definitely be challenged by some of the hiking trails in the Andes at high altitude and they will require a reasonable level of fitness. If the team choose a jungle trek the humid conditions will be tiring but worth it! Glacier trekking is technical rather than overly physically demanding and a bit of balance would be handy when horse riding! Depending on the expedition, participants may have to cope with contrasts in climate from very humid conditions to bleak cold wildernesses.

Culture shock rating - South America

Expedition teams will be confronted with the noise and bustle of cities where they will come into contact with stark contrasts of riches and poverty which they may find challenging. In other parts of South America, like the Amazon or the Andes, they may encounter cultures very different to their own. This expedition is a chance for participants to experience and appreciate traditional customs and ways of life that have remained unchanged for centuries. Transport may well be unreliable and accommodation often basic.
