Our Team Training Programmes

Outlook’s expedition programmes are not just about preparing for and going on expedition. Outlook firmly believes its programmes will equip participants with life skills which are essential to successfully navigate their way through life in an increasingly competitive world. Outlook offers two different training programmes, Longer Journeys and Shorter Journeys.

What is a Longer Journey?

A longer journey is - well - longer. It usually involves between a 19 day and a 31 day itinerary . The distance travelled is often longer too as these journeys usually take participants to long haul destinations. Because of the duration, the Longer Journey is available for participants aged 16 and over (at the time of going on expedition). (Applications from participants aged under 16 at the time of travel will be considered at the request of their parent / guardian). Groups usually choose to complete a Longer Journey expedition during the longer summer holiday period.

The complete programme is normally between 14 and 18 months long – and involves 3 Group Development Days at your school or meeting place, destination specific Expedition Training, a Final Preparation Day, THE EXPEDITION, a Homecoming de-briefing and a Skills Refresher Day.

What is a Shorter Journey?

A Shorter Journey is, not surprisingly, shorter than a Longer Journey! It usually involves an itinerary of between 7 and 18 days. Because they are shorter in duration, Shorter Journeys are ideal for younger participants or participants who do not want to go away for a long period of time or perhaps travel so far. They are open to young people aged between 13 and 18 at the time of going on expedition - or during the same academic year as they depart. Shorter Journeys can take place during the Easter and summer holidays as well as half term periods and even over Christmas. They are usually based on a 6 to 12 month build up period – although they can be arranged with a minimum of 4 months notice – which allows time to ensure the group is fully prepared.

The programme includes 2 Group Training Days held at your school or meeting place, Final Preparation Day, THE EXPEDITION and Homecoming.
