Fundraising

Fundraising is not just about collecting money to pay for an expedition.  It's part of the developmental experience, the learning curve, and gives participants a chance to show commitment and ingenuity.  Skills and traits essential to future employers and respected by universities.

Am I going to be able to raise the money?

This is usually the biggest question in the minds of our participants before they decide to apply to go on expedition. The answer is, well really, it is up to you! Raising the money to go on expedition is a commitment but it is achievable. Outlook has worked with young people from different backgrounds who attend both independent and state schools as well as youth organisations from across the UK. In our experience – any young person can raise the money to go on an expedition if they set their mind to it.

Prove you are entrepreneurial

One of the key benefits of participating in an expedition programme is for the participants to develop and use their entrepreneurial skills to raise the money to fund their expedition.

What support will participants have?

The Link Teacher and Outlook’s Expedition Programme Team will be on hand to encourage the participants with their fundraising and to offer advice – but it is not up to them to raise the money! Don’t forget, some of the fundraising you do will be as a team so you will be able to bounce ideas off each other. Raising the money can be as much fun as you want to make it!

How Outlook will support you…

  • You will be able to download the Money Matters Pack from the Members’ Area of our website which includes detailed advice on planning events, sponsorship and employment.
  • Workshops focusing on fundraising are included as part of your expedition training programme.
  • Our Expedition Programme Team will be on hand to offer you advice and encouragement throughout the programme.
  • As a team you can opt to add additional sponsored events on to your training package.  How about a sponsored walk up one of the highest peaks in the UK - Snowden, Scarfell Pike or Ben Nevis?  You might even attempt all three! Outlook can organise this and provide a leader to keep you safe.  We keep the cost of providing these events to a minimum to support participants.
  • Individuals can also choose to attend our regional sponsored abseil event.

How your Link Teacher can support you...

  • Help you obtain support from your school for fundraising events.
  • Help you organise regular meetings to discuss your progress and offer advice.
  • Joining you on some of your fundraising events

How your parents / guardians can support you...

  • Birthday or Christmas contributions.
  • By joining in the fun at fundraising events.

(BUT DO NOT expect them to write a cheque for your whole expedition!)
