Expedition Leaders

Outlook employ qualified and experienced Expedition Leaders who must pass a rigorous 5-stage selection process in order to lead an overseas expedition. The selection process includes a free, fully accommodated and catered 2-day recruitment course.  This course will involve practical workshops and discussion groups covering aspects of safety and leadership in remote environments, group management while on expedition and dealing with incident scenarios that may arise during expeditions.

All Outlook Expedition Leaders must possess:

  • Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) / Scottish Criminal Records Office (SCRO) disclosure certificate
  • As a minimum, all our Expedition Leaders hold the Mountain Leader (summer) qualification with many holding Mountain Leader (winter), International Mountain Leader (IML) or Mountain Instructor Award qualifications
  • Level 2 Exploration Medicine / Remote Emergency Care First Aid qualification (Outlook is able to deliver training in this qualification at a minimum charge - contact us for details)
  • Although a National Governing Body qualification is held as a minimum requirement, Outlook believes that the developing world travel experience and knowledge of a leader is just as important and always takes this into account.

If you are considering becoming an Expedition Leader, more information about our expedition leader opportunities can be found in the Jobs section.
