As quality leadership is at the heart of every Outlook expedition, it's vital that we take the time to match you with the right team. We want to place you with an expedition that matches your experience and level of qualification, and one that will provide you with the opportunity to mature as a leader. We consider the background and personalities involved, so you can feel confident in your ability to identify with your team, allowing you to build those all-important bonds.
We don't stop there either! We firmly believe in the early placement of our leaders. It's certainly not the case of turn-up at the airport and meet your team. We will endeavour to place you at least four months prior to departure so you can meet parents and work with your team as part of the build up to the expedition.
Expedition Development Day
Held at the school, this is your first opportunity to meet the team, with their parents. You'll be required to provide information on the itinerary, kit, your own experience and also to answer any questions or concerns that parents may have. This is your opportunity to demonstrate that you are the right person for the job, so we will make sure you are given the necessary training and resources in advance.
This is what sets us apart from our competitors. You'll be required to work with your team for a weekend in the outdoors some months in advance of the expedition. This will give you the opportunity to cover many areas including camp-craft, cooking, budgeting, hygiene, first aid, as well as expedition safety and risk assessment.
Leader Team Training
Held regionally two or three months prior to departure, this will give you a final opportunity to work with your Link Teacher before the expedition. Prior to attending the event (featuring several workshops), you'll undertake a short e-learning module, designed to offer appropriate training and professional development in-line with your experience. You'll also be given the opportunity to spend time with your Expedition Planner to go through your specific itinerary.
Final Preparation Day
It's nearly time to go! The day of or before departure, this is your last chance to carry out a kit check and sort out any last minute problems. During the handover, we will provide you with your final Itinerary Pack (including Risk Assessments, Team Medical Packs and Expedition Logs), while sample copies will also be included within your induction pack.
During the expedition we will ask you to start compiling your post-expedition report and student references - templates for both will be provided within your induction pack.
Skills Refresher Day
An optional event, but a unique opportunity to catch-up and review with your team within three months of returning from expedition.
