An Outlook school Expedition is not like your usual school trip; every Outlook expedition is designed to be challenging, inspiring and transforming; a powerful force in empowering young people to identify and realise their ambitions. By giving students responsibility and ownership of their expedition, they develop life skills such as independence, confidence and accountability and enrich their characters through and enrich their characters, discovering abilities they never knew they had.
Link Teachers select the duration, destination and key objectives of the expedition and accompany the team overseas with an Outlook Expedition Leader. An expedition can last anything from 7 days to 31 days and go to pretty much anywhere in the world where it's safe to travel. Over the last 15 years Outlook teams have visited over 80 destinations across 6 continents. All our expeditions have an ethos of getting back to basics and experiencing life and culture in the place you are staying. Accommodation can range from tents to hostels, hammocks or mountain huts and you could be shopping in markets, cooking on open fires or trying the cuisine in local cafes or restaurants.
Most expeditions include an Adventure element which could include trekking, sea kayaking, horse riding or diving. We can also include the chance to complete the expedition section of the Gold DofE award overseas in a number of destinations.Projects are often at the heart of the expedition, working with local communities or helping to conserve precious environments and wildlife.
All our expeditions include a time for Rest and Relaxation to give the team a chance to reflect and take in every last drop of the expedition experience!
Every Outlook school expedition is designed to be educational, not just in the academic sense but in a way that supports the development of core skills. We do this by putting the young people in the driving seat throughout the expedition experience. From the start students are responsible for planning and choosing their itinerary, destination research, budgeting and raising funds.
The build up to expedition is usually between 18 months and 1 year and we believe that this time is as important as the expedition itself, with our exciting programme structured to make sure the team are fully prepared for their time overseas.
